Patriot, Compass, Caliber
2011 Patriot; Compass mimics Grand Cherokee. To be replaced in 2012 either by Chrysler-engineered, Fiat-platform cars or, more likely, by tweaked, Fiat-based cars. Caliber is reportedly first to go as the one that needs replacement the most. redriderbob, a fairly accurate source, wrote: “Jeep engineers are working closely with Fiat engineers on this project. The engineers have been driving and testing the new Fiat source dual clutch transmissions and said that ... they are worried about people complaining about how they don't coast like most transmissions when you let your foot of the gas and quickly scrub off speed. We will more likely see a diesel version of the replacement Compass/Patriot here in the US and Canada. They are also making sure this new Jeep is more capable then the ones it replaces. Jeep owners will have a true Jeep. ... Most of the parts that Fiat has given up to Jeep won’t be seen to the Jeep owner like electrical, steering columns, and transmissions. The person I talked to last night said expect for a vehicle that is built to be a 80% on road 20% off road vehicle but still have trail rated offerings.”
The Patriot name might continue. Its replacement will reportedly “look very much like the current Patriot in shape and size but mixed just slightly with the soft lines of the old Jeep Renegade and Willys2 concepts.”
Rumor has the new Patriot coming from the Mirafiori plant in Torino, Italy, but it’s also possible the Patriot will be made in North America and Mirafiori, the latter getting a diesel and European tuning.
